Political Ads: Sifting

Two weeks to go before our elections will be over, with one exception. Has anyone else notice the election ads misconceptions? I counted, on one hand within a few pages, of ads with pictures. Knowing the majority of these folks, and recently seeing them, I know those pictures are antique. These folks are not even confident about their self images (which in my opinion is about as bad as Hollywood images, and portrayal to young girls) So the pictures lead me to think what else are they misleading me about. So I read on. In one ad I read how they have the support of their entire staff (ha). I saw two problems with that statement. One, her entire staff of 4 just added 3 new people, they are new and have not worked with her long. Two, who in their right mind would tell their boss, well no I do not support you! In another ad it encourages you to ask a candidate questions that he can not answer. Why? Because of a court order he can not answer, but of course the ad left that information out. Again I have to ask who keeps the politicians honest (yes I used politician and honest in same sentence) The answer I keep getting is voters do. So I pay a persons salary in hopes they are honest for four years? How much time do they take off? I do not know, its on the honor system. If there is no honesty in their ads, I would dare say they have no integrity, and hence would more than likely in four years need to be replaced. But one would hope that out of maybe two candidates one is more honest.

One of our choices had tax payers pick up her student loan bill, was that not our tax payer money? She was working at the time, and purchased a new vehicle soon after. Her campaign is on hard working for the public (another ha) Maybe she could work the next four years without pay, since we already paid off her loans for her.

HELP WANTED:

A individual to appear to work for 4 years, no supervision, no honesty needed, integrity not a must, come and go as you please (no time clock to punch), get health care, if you show up for a meeting for the position you applied for, will give you a bonus, deduct lunches and mileage, misleading folks a must (what the public does not know is better for them) no degree or actual knowledge of this job required, just get the voters to take two seconds out of their busy lives to place a check mark by your name, possibility of anointing your best friend when you want to move on, possibility of life career with no accountability (blame the underdog get two hundred dollars and pass go), if this sounds like the job for you, please join the local political party of your choice within weeks prior to primaries.

Sign me up for the Democrat place at the trough in the next election. I could not be more honest about my intention to be out of the country from November to April every year.

Oh, that wasn't what you wanted to hear?

Then vote for the other candidate, who will tell you what you want to hear, again.

That will be a Republican, because no Democrat will sign up without being guaranteed a victory in advance.

Did you offer to pay for all the yard signs for your favorite candidate? Did you go door-to-door to support your hero? Save up your pennies and nickels for me. We'll hit your neighborhood a month before the primary and again a month before the general election.

Let "who" do it?

I absolutly LOVE that help wanted ad!!! It goes right along with my beliefs that some people only join the local party to get in the Fair Booth before the primary.
How could anyone vote for a person who only shows up for the monthly GOP meeting one time before the primary election, knows no one in office who does the job now, and has no idea what is going on in the local government??
That is why we focused on the fact that my husband has been a member of the party and executive committee member for the past 7 years and knows many many people in local and state government to turn to to help him with his rookie status.
We could have focused on that one candidate is a 'retired man with nothing else to do' (HIS WORDS!!), one is a coach from the local school with no governement experience, and the other candidate is going to be a puppett for her fiance/partner who is on the township board...But negative campaigning is below true republicans and should be below the Dems.

Thornapple and Irving Townships have a choice, I hope for all our sakes they make the right one.

Which one of their "choices" is a Democrat?

el Grillo: I'm socking every peso I can spare in my piggy bank for 'ya. What a refreshing zepher you'd bring to the political arena in Barry County ... an honest politician who tells you precisely how much he is not going to work if elected and exactly where you can find him.

Don't forget tonight is the great WBCH debate on 101.1 FM.

All the candidates have been invited to attend and you can call or email questions for them. check out wbch.com for more details.

Two that won't be there are "barney & big boy" they apparently have other commitments??????? perhaps pizza to eat???????

dad and i listen to the WBCH political candidate debate between the sheriff / prosecutor candidates. wow we can see why darling barney and evans were no shows. sarvars (no swat) and the young lady, prosecutor selic, would have buried leaf and evans with their positive accountability, thinking and outstanding creditials.

apparently evans thought there would be no jury appeal and pizza sounded better. evans probabily didn't want to have to defend his 0-14 prosecution record.

leaf probably didn't want to explain why he didn't attend his own fools-gun-parade after organizing it, or comment on his expensive jail junkets at the taxpayers expense, or why leaf, callton, engleth and ferris spent over $300,000.00 taxpayers dollars on a computer program that doesn't work or doesn't connect to any other public safety agencies, the prosecutors office or the courts.

our question to barney leaf would have been "what ever happened to the jails lunch money, was it embezzlement or didn't prosecutor evans think it had jury appeal?

what is the real story leaf and evans? why do you continue to fail to publicly answer the tax payers questions or mr. radants questions or bulwarks questions?
we the public have the right to no.

you had the opportunity to come clean. your actions and diversion speak louder than words

I was corrected, on the street, and informed that anybody with a felony conviction cannot get a CCW permit (thereby protecting abused spouses from felonious spouses).

A few pedal revolutions down the street I realized that while that is true, pleaing down from a felonious charge (such as "embezzlement") to the lesser charge of a misdemeanor would allow a whack-job to continue parading around with his substitute manhood under his Lone Ranger costume, patiently waiting for enough insecurity to build up to wave it around and then eventually to shoot somebody.

Maybe plea-bargaining has a few flaws when it comes to protecting society from threats of violence.

thinking back to 2004 and the election of a probate judge, I recall the local rag made abig deal over then Judge Feekes not being at a debate/forum.

In fact they had an empty chair with her name on it as I recall.

She apparently was not there as she was in Florida with a dying mother.

I wonder if we will see any pictures of empty chairs in the local rag on this one?????

I will dare say that Evans and Leaf are not showing not because of pizza but because Julie Deboer works at WBCH. TS you cry over and over again about fairness, and yet when it comes times to slam you go full force.

Also TS if you believe Sellck is credibile you HAVE not done your homework. Maybe you should recheck her background a few more years.

lonevoice said...

I would not know Ms. Selleck if she knocked on my door.

I really do not care who is pros. as long as "Big Boy" is gone, his behavior as it relates to the former 911 director is inexcuseable, this is not what we need as pros in this county.

He must go....

SO what you are saying is no matter who the person is, or what they stand for, qualifications, you will vote for them, and why because you are mad over one incident? Great, we should have a few thousand more like you to vote.

bebe,

no you are wrong, the point is simple, no ne could be any worse than he.

the office of prosecutor has clear mandate to protect everyone and see that they are treated correctly under the law, he has not done this and the example I have used is foremost on my mind.

he publicly stood before the cameras and told everyone that a person had committed a crime and that he had already decided that the person was guilty.

I believe the term that is used is called "nifonged", after the famous "Duke" pros.

It is my hope that the former 911 director is rewarded much like those players were in the law suit, that we the taxpayers are footing the bill for because of the ineptness of "barney & big boy".

we can not do any worse than what is there now, so making a change to someone else is not that big of a gamble for me.

If you have never met that person, never asked their views, never looked into their past, never check on any part of anything, even the correct spelling of their name, then there is a gamble. Which goes to prove, people just take two seconds to vote for whatever, and whatever is what you will get, and four more years of it. Someday people will ask for accountability PRIOR to placing people in office. Someday........

bebe,
What you are describing happens in other countries on a regular basis. I detect from your writing that you worry that the rest of the world is waiting for the USA to show them the way to democracy and world peace. Nothing could be farther from the whole truth.

"Total World spending (on military expenditures) amounted to $1.339 trillion in 2007, with about 45% of the total amount spent by the United States." Wikipedia

If the people of the USA knew as much about the USA as the people in the rest of the world know (from reading and doing their homework), the polls would not be reporting an approval rating of Sen. McCain higher than that of his mentor, GWBII. I fully expect that somebody will reply to this remark with something heard on TV.

The USA stopped leading the world when Reagan was elected, perhaps even earlier.

grillo,

did you mean to say "carter"?

TS,
I admire Carter,

and along with most of the rest of the literate world blame Reagan for jump-starting the reign of whack-jobs in the USA.

Reagan's greatest contributions were shining the light on the devastating condition of Alzheimers and shifting the Republican Party from rational thought to emotional appeals to followers of violence and the American Idle.

I hope that helps to clear up where I stand.
